Cooking the Books: Savoring Food with Book Clubs and Authors

What are book clubs across America reading – and eating? In what ways do bestselling authors use food to enhance their stories? How can food add a unique and delicious dimension to discussions of literature? Join us as we discuss what we learned in conversations with hundreds of book club members across America, along with dozens of bestselling authors. We’ll share a sampling of the diverse book clubs we discovered, the creative ways that book clubs across the country are integrating food into their meetings, and the many meanings that authors assign to food in their work. We will also discuss the evolutionary process of writing The Book Club Cookbook and Table of Contents: selecting authors and recipes to include; pairing recipes with literature; and conversing with bestselling authors about the connection between food and their work. Generally, a sampling of foods from our book is made available to the audience after our talk — always a welcome aspect of the event!
